Overview

A critical, and often overlooked, component of any serious UAV is the pitot-static system.

Pitot tubes are used to measure airspeed and barometric altitude (altitude based on atmospheric pressure).  Airspeed is a critical factor in control of a UAV and it cannot be measured any other way.

The pitot tubes used by Skycam have the follwoing features

• Static compensated (makes altitude measurements more accurate)
•  Protected against water and dirt ingress to increase reliability in hostile environments*.
• Small and light.  Each tube is 6.5mm in diameter and 100m long and weighs only 16g
• Strong, stainless-steel construction

*These pitots have been tested in light rain with no adverse barometric effects.
